Scarlet Macaws are beautiful birds, but deforestation and other negative human impacts could affect their future. I spotted these two at a wildlife refuge in the Peruvian Amazon.
I am a graduate student in Earth and Ocean Sciences with a focus on the interaction between geology, ecology and climate in tropical South America for the past 65 million years. To gain more insight in this complex system, I try to reconstruct the climate history based on sediment samples, fossils and their chemistry. Being out in the field creates the perfect occasion to document and share some of the regions where only a few of us ever make it to.
