Winter in Maine is cold. Still, this doesn’t stop Mainers and visitors alike from enjoying the outdoors in a variety of different ways. On a recent visit at the end of November, I stopped in York to photograph a group of paddleboarders and surfers off a small beach. The temperature? A crisp 35 degrees F!

She has a master’s degree in environmental management, where she specialized in ecosystem science and conservation. Her love of the outdoors was inspired by a childhood in Maine, where she returned for her National Geographic Young Explorer grant.
