A Student in Montpellier

by Grace Clunie

I have moved to my new home! Montpellier is a city in southern France on the Mediterranean. Although still a decent-sized and modern city, it has many narrow, cobble-stoned and winding streets that are longstanding and very charming. La Place de la Comédie is the central square and the city blooms out from there! Once you get off the larger, more commercial streets, you can find unique cafés, shops and (my favorite) street art!

Montpellier is a “young” city in that there are many university students like myself, which gives the city a dynamic ambiance. Many other southern cities along the Mediterranean are vacation getaways for wealthy grandparents or tourist destinations. While those cities are beautiful in their own way, Montpellier has avoided this development. Now that you are acquainted, I’ll be following up with some adventures and tangents of my time here!
